Since its founding in 1814, every knife bearing the legendary Wusthof name has been crafted in the city of Solingen, Germany, with company craftsmen following the mission of “Passion - Diligence - Perfection”.
Long renowned as “The City of Blades,” Solingen, Germany has earned the reputation of crafting the world’s finest cutlery for generations. Home to master blacksmiths for over 2,000 years, the city’s many creeks and spillways of the Wupper River were perfectly suited to provide power for the production of blades in the 18th and 19th centuries.mKnives made in Solingen have long been honored and prized for their outstanding quality and craftsmanship. For that reason, the name of Solingen has been protected with legislation, “The Solingen Decree,” so that this dedication to quality is maintained and that knives made in Solingen meet the most exacting standards. To this day, each knife produced by Wusthof is proudly marked as “Made in Solingen.”
Carrying on this tradition to today, Wusthof’s Precision Edge Technology, PEtec, offers superior blade sharpness and has set the new standard for modern cutlery. PEtec eliminates the irregularities that diminish blade sharpness and overall performance, and through a proprietary process inclusive of computer-controlled robotics, Wusthof’s PEtec yields a smoother, more refined edge with dramatically increased sharpness and sharpness retention along the entire length of the blade, resulting in knives with definitive advantages for every home or professional chef.
Long at the forefront of environmental awareness in the cutlery industry, Wusthof maintains a central environmental management department to manage all of the relevant processes within the company, and Wusthof production facilities in Solingen are amongst the most modern in the world with production methods continually optimized to increase energy efficiency and use of raw materials, as well as to limit wastewater contamination and reduce emissions of CO² and other gases. Air and water used in production leave the plant completely uncontaminated thanks to an extensive filter system and currently efforts are concentrating on recovering heat from the production process and reducing noise emissions. Wusthof’s commitment to sustainability is constantly being pushed further and further each day.
